Nike Air Max 95 Safari Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector. Updated: 01-06-2016

The last 95s I reviewed were a collab, so I just wanted to chip in regarding these GR Nike Air Max 95 Safari.

Marked as a “premium” release, these feature a good combination of materials and patterns to create what I believe to be one of the sleeper releases of late 2014-early 2015. I feel like everyone tends to ignore releases like this when they first drop. For example, the value of these was almost half retail on eBay when they dropped. Still, once pairs dry up and there’s only a couple floating around on auction sites, the value rises.

The materials on these are decent. The obvious standout is the safari print – the rest of the shoe isa standard Air Max 95 combination of suede, mesh and leather. The leather seems decent and the toebox suede seems to be low-mid quality. Definitely not a lush suede used on this shoe, considering these are supposed to be a premium release. That said, the materials aren’t terrible, they’re just not super special either.

I think the big selling point on these is the colorway. Blacks and greyish tans keep this shoe quiet – even the safari print seems muted. However, the bits of red on the eyelets, air bubble and tongue tag along with the 3M portions of the shoe (especially on the tongue) help give the shoe some pop, almost like the hits are bursting out of an otherwise somewhat drab shoe. If you sport a mostly black outfit and throw these on, those red hits are going to burst off your feet like crazy!

The Nike Air Max 95 Safari fit great. Air max 95s tend to be clunky but comfortable and these are no exception. I recommend going true to size for the most comfortable fit. If you’re used to lunar running shoes and roshes, these might seem a tad heavy, but make no mistake, the comfort is there and for casual wear its tough to beat a solid pair of AM95!
