Nike Air Max 90 Hyper Blue Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

I used to have these back in the day but I sold em, and regretted it ever since! Luckily, I re-copped… The Nike Air Max 90 Hyper Blue are part of the essentials line and were also part of a “suede pack” which included other pairs of AM90s.

I haven’t reviewed too many pairs of 90s on this blog yet, but I’m a big fan and own a few pairs. The Air Max 1 to some has the slight edge on looks, but overall, Air Max 90s are a dope shoe with a classic silhouette.

I go with grey tops and light wash jeans for these. I’m thinking khakis and a white top or black denim with some kind of blue and white top or layering could also work well. Overall these are so crisp that the danger is they will “pop” a little too much, so wearing other attention-getting pieces can help round the outfit out (hence the red hat to balance everything).

How Are The Materials?

I’m not going to say these are buttery, but they are lush and well constructed. These aren’t a premium release but they look and feel premium, if not soft to the touch. I feel like for an essentials release, this pair of 90s actually has nicer materials than some premium pairs I’ve reviewed. Even the synthetic leather on the swoosh seems to be a decent quality smooth leather. All in all, I’d say the materials were the biggest pleasant surprise about the shoe!

How Do They Fit?

The Nike Air Max 90 Hyper Blue fit true to size and are decently comfortable. I feel like Nike retros are always more stiff and uncomfortable than their non-Nike counterparts. In this case, the materials used help these to be a bit more flexible and easier to break in. The Air Max support helps give these a solid feel on foot. Overall these are more comfortable than many pairs of Nike retros but definitely not up to par with boost or lunar based shoes. The shape on these is ok right out of the box, but I did some minor reshaping to get the toebox sloping correctly on my pair.
