2014 Nike Air Huarache Scream Green Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Air Huarache Scream Green is probably one of the most well known OG colorways of the Huarache to release when the shoe first dropped in 1991.

At this point, it had only retro’d one time in 1999 and again with this version in 2014. The shoe is based off of a sandal in concept – meaning the huarache uses minimal materials to hold it together. Tinker Hatfield took the idea and made it into a running shoe. As I’m only somewhat partial to the design, if I was going to get one colorway, it would be this one.

Neoprene mesh and leather comprise the materials on this sneaker. There’s not a whole lot I can say about the materials – the leather seems nice and the neoprene is of course very… neoprene-y. The shoe does seem well constructed although I’ve seen pictures online of the plastic pulltab-type piece on the back ripping completely off, so I’m careful to avoid using it to pull the shoe on.

The Nike Air Huarache Scream Green fit snug. I still go true to size. It is common to size up in order to get a more comfortable fit though. That said, these really aren’t uncomfortable at true to size, thanks to the shoe being mostly a stretchy mesh.
