Asics Gel Lyte V Goretex Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The weather calls for rain, and I’m ready with these Asics Gel Lyte V Goretex.

I’m already a big fan of Asics and Goretex, so to have them both on one shoe is great! The shoes are made a bit more weatherproof thanks to this collab (more on that below) and the colorway is definitely a head turner with the volt accents and spiffy rope laces completing the look.

These contain a mixture of suede, leather and mesh with 3M hits on the back. The suede doesn’t feel like it is of very high quality, but the shoe is meant to get wet. The quality of the shoe feels sturdy and thick due to the reinforced layer beneath the mesh which is presumably the Goretex layer that’s keeping feet dry when these are worn. Overall these have a solid feel and I would say the materials make sense; the materials are definitely more all-weather rugged than buttery.

The Asics Gel Lyte V Goretex fit snug but comfortably. I’d still go true to size on these. If you’re used to Gel Lyte III‘s, these fit a bit different as they have more of an inner-bootie type tongue as opposed to the trademark GL3 split tongue. Feet are definitely kept warm and dry thanks to the thick materials.
