Air Jordan 9 Statue Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

According to Nike, the Air Jordan 9 Statue is actually supposed to be called “The Spirit”, and draws it’s inspiration from a famous statue in Chicago of Michael Jordan wearing the AJIX.

The date on the inside of the tongue (11/1/94) marks the statue’s unveiling while the bronze colors along the inside and midsole directly tie to the statue’s color.

I love Air Jordans, but the 9’s were always way too big and bootlike for me. This particular pair however catches my eye in a way that is really dope. I think it’s the goldish-bronze color on the midsole against the white upper with the black tongue that really makes these for me. The thick all-leather upper is of good quality, albeit smooth leather.

Although these are fairly big and bootlike (a downside of the 9, depending on how you look at it), they are still very comfortable. I went true to size and don’t regret it one bit. I’m not sure if going down half a size would make these too snug to be comfortable. The fast-lacing system really gets your foot snug and locked down in these.
