2006 Air Jordan 4 Military Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

Suffering from the same hate the Air Jordan 3 Fire Red retro from the same year was hit with, the 2006 Air Jordan 4 Military received plenty of nitpicking complaints about shape and quality when they dropped.

They were/are not difficult to get and the midsole chips just as easily. This OG colorway deserves more respect than that! I think this colorway is so dope, I not only have this pair, but the newer retro that released as well for when this pair eventually becomes unwearable (these type of midsoles will eventually degrade and crumble). Rumor has it that the shoes are returning yet again for another retro in 2016, only this time with the Nike Air on the back intact instead of the jumpman logo found on these.

Yes, the paint on the midsole can chip on these, but the paint is offwhite so at a distance you can barely tell its chipping. While the shape and leather quality also received complaints, at the end of the day the materials on these still beat out the materials on newer pairs released by Jordan brand. The upper is mostly leather with the neutral grey area around the toebox being a smooth nubuck. Overall the materials on these are decent and construction is very solid if not crease-prone.

The 2007 Air Jordan 4 Military fit true to size. I highly recommend not sizing down on these – your pinky toes will thank you! These have an average amount of cushioning – you’re not walking on clouds with these but they are of passable comfort for retros.
