I’m back again with some more 1999 dunk high LE. Being a collector of dunks, I have quite a few of these vintage “be true to your school” dunks. SB heads and dunk fiends alike should recognize the slightly boxier shape and all leather construction.
The St. John designation comes from the colorway of the shoe originally being based off the St. John’s basketball team when dunks first came out.
I went with a light colored outfit. To be honest, a lot of different looks can be pulled off with a basic white and red dunk. In this case, my standard go to fit of a grey hoodie and light wash jeans worked out. I also considered some black jeans and a red hoodie, which would provide a more “street” look.
I have so many pairs of white and red shoes, it seems like I wouldn’t need these, but I had to grab them anyway based off the collector/vintage factor. These kicks are over 15 years old and still going strong!
Materials
The quality of the leather on these is very nice, and the kicks have a nice vintaged look when they age thanks to the nylon tongue. Nike was flat out just making better quality shoes back in the day, which explains why the materials have lasted over 20 years!
Fit
These 1999 Nike Dunk High LE St John definitely fits true to size. Since the odds are you won’t be able to try these on before you buy them, I would stay on the safe side with your true size. The comfort on these is great, although there’s nothing particularly special about the basic padding and cushioning.
